What is easier than putting some oats in a jar and leaving them to set overnight? When you combine this with your favourite ingredients, chocolate and peanut butter, true magic happens.
Overnight oats really are the most versatile breakfast. If you are having these after training, you might like to add a banana for an extra carb hit or whey powder for a little extra protein for recovery.
Combining peanut butter will increase the fat content, which is not a bad thing. While this could potential slow the breakdown and absorption of carb and protein post workout, the extra fats will help increase satiety throughout the day and maybe even reduce your sugar craving later in the day. Not to mention make the whole recipe taste unbelievably good!
Every time I empty a jar of peanut butter, I give it a good wash and put it into storage for this exact purpose, to re-use a parfait jar for something delicious.
Have you ever wondered how create an Instagram worthy jar? I think I have discovered the secret. A zip lock bag…. Combining all the ingredients in a zip lock bag first is the key. Allow the ingredients to sit in the bag for a hour or so and then using berries and other ingredients start the laying process by cutting the corner of the bag and individually piping the mixture into each jar… guaranteed no mess or dribbles.
In a zip lock bag, combine the milk, peanut butter, cacao powder, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Shake until well combined.
Add in the rolled oats, close the bag and re-shack. Allow the mixture to sit for 1 hour if possible.
Divide oats between two re-used jars. You can layer the mixture with fruit too. Â Securely fasten the lids and refrigerate at least 6 hours or overnight.
Top with toppings of choice and go!
